FMR signs on to letter regarding proposed CO2 pipeline
FMR has signed on to a letter calling for the state to require rigorous study and an environmental impact statement before considering proposed carbon dioxide pipelines.
Minnesotans deserve to know the impacts of such projects, especially those who would bear their direct effects in or near their community.
Concerns include:
- Impacts on rivers, lakes, streams and other bodies of water in the case of a pipeline leak or rupture
- Health and safety of nearby communities
- Amount of water usage required for carbon capture technology
- Strain on water resources given the increasing frequency of drought conditions
Drafted through the Minnesota Environmental Partnership the letter was signed by 15 organizations and delivered to the Public Utilities Commission.
